Jerzy Halbersztadt

Mr. Jerzy Halbersztadt is a historian and museum expert. He was the Founding Director of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw and served in this position till 2011. During the time Halbersztadt was the director, the architectural design and planning of the Museum's core exhibition was developed.

From 1991 to 2003 Halbersztadt was Project Director for Poland of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington and was in charge of the search for artifacts for exhibitions and finding historical documentation about the Holocaust. He also developed an academic cooperation between the Center of Advanced Holocaust Studies in Washington and Polish research institutions.

Jerzy Halbersztadt graduated from the University of Warsaw in 1973 and then worked as an assistant professor and lecturer at the Historical Institute at the University of Warsaw. In 1984, he established the Museum of the University of Warsaw (opened in 1989). He was a curator of 14 exhibitions and author of ca. 30 studies and papers on the political history of Poland in the 20th century.

Currently Jerzy Halbersztadt is the President and CEO of the Partnership in Culture Foundation based in Warsaw. He is a consultant to several museums and exhibition projects in Poland, Germany, Israel and Switzerland. and a member of the International Council of Museums, of the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute of Poland.
